All our patients are invited to come in, sit and talk with Dr. Nock prior to surgery to ensure that every question is answered and your personal needs and preferences are addressed. With a careful oral examination and use of our 3-D imaging technology, Dr. Nock will discuss with you the current position of your wisdom teeth and use his experience to address possible present or potential future problems. Dr. Nock’ patients are often referred by their dentist or orthodontist and are seeking experienced, surgical advice on how best to address the health of their mouth.

The team at Nock Oral Surgery offers a range of pain management and anesthetic solutions to help make you feel relaxed and comfortable not matter what work you need done. Although some procedures are best conducted under local or IV sedation, many times a general anesthetic provides the optimal level of comfort and ease in surgical cases. Dr. Nock is happy to discuss all options available to best help with your stress and pain management needs.

Local: Dr. Nock will numb your mouth with a shot of Novocaine in your gums.You may also breathe nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to relax or even doze during surgery. You should feel alert again shortly afterward.

IV sedation: Dr. Nock will numb your mouth and also give you medication through a vein in your arm to make you drowsy.
General: Many local dentists offer local, and even IV sedation, but only a qualified surgeon can provide general anesthesia. Dr. Nock is often called upon for more complex cases, and in many of these cases general anesthesia is the best option. With general anesthesia, you’ll either receive medication through a vein or breathe gas in through a mask. You’ll be asleep the whole time and wake up only after the surgery is complete.

What’s The Deal With Wisdom Teeth Anyway?

Most of us will develop a complete set of 32 teeth by the age of 18. The final set of molars, your third molars, are also known as “wisdom teeth.” While these teeth may have once been important for grinding down plant tissue, human diets have changed and smaller jaws have gradually evolved. While no longer necessary for healthy function, wisdom teeth still commonly develop in human mouths. Many today find that their wisdom teeth do not come in aligned properly and can create pain and discomfort if they do not erupt properly or become impacted. Even when the wisdom teeth come in properly, the average mouth can comfortably hold only 28 teeth and these additional four teeth cause pressure that may move other teeth and disrupt the orthodontic or natural alignment of teeth.
